John is the acting Registered Residential Manager in Mainstays Residential Service. He has over 16 years’ experience working in the voluntary sector. The majority of this time was spent working with the homeless. In this work John has had various roles but most of his time was spent managing a homeless hostel. Here not only would temporary accommodation be provided to those in need but the service users would be actively supported to find secure accommodation that they could call home and given the skills to live independently. In his time working with the homeless, John has worked in a Homeless Prevention Programme and Floating Support.

John has also spent four years managing a religious Convent which included the care for elderly Sisters who spent their lives working in the missions in Africa as well as the day to day running of the Convent and has also worked for a housing advice charity and in social housing.

John is currently undertaking his Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Health and Social Care. This accredited qualification is funded and facilitated by Mainstay DRP upon John taking up his position.

John has always been drawn to working with some of the most vulnerable people in the community and approaches work with a client centred approach. Whether it is the homeless, elderly and now people with learning disabilities, John believes that everyone should have the right to a full and independent a life as possible.  John believes that everyone has the right to live with dignity and be fully involved in their care.  John states that it is a privilege to make a positive impact on resident wellbeing each day and this is what gives him the greatest job satisfaction.
